The 7:39

So who watched 'The 7:39' last night on BBC1? It had mixed reviews on twitter and from me to be honest. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the casting choices, Olivia Colman is of course an acting maestro and Sheridan Smith is always a joy to watch. David Morrissey is one of those actors to me where I go 'what have I seen him in?' But they all seemed to be the best choices and their interwoven stories kept the viewers entertained. In a way it was predictable as most viewers including myself expected the glaringly obvious to happen, that Morrissey and Smith's characters would get together therefore cheating on their respective partners. However the clever way that the monotonous train journey was portrayed can be felt by many across London and the surrounding areas. Many revelled in seeing their train provider South West Trains appear and trying to work out which route they were on (somewhere in Surrey, I guessed Guildford, Woking or Surbiton?). The relationship between them seemed innocent at first but then it dove deeper into Sheridan Smith's happiness with her FiancĂ© and David Morrissey's lack of excitement in his marriage.

I feel the main let down was the lack of surprise in the story. It seemed inevitable that they would become friends even from the first arguement their characters have, then predictable when they start getting drunk and then end up in a hotel. The next interesting part will be the will they won't they get together and will they tell their partners and families. Well we will find out tonight on BBC1 at 9pm. Will the couple 'take it to the grave' and return to strangers on a train or will they cave in and tell all of their affair?
