New York ,New York and panic on the streets of London

With Milan nearly over and Paris starting tomorrow I thought I would reflect on some of my favourite autumn/winter shows from New York and London.

NEW YORK

Michael Kors

With a palette of mainly black, grey and white it's a very sharp clean collection with a variety of shapes. I love the midi skirts, trouser suits and puffa jackets.

Helmut Lang

With cropped 'lego' hair the continuity of this collection is excellent. The androgynous tailored trouser and jacket combination works really well with the baggy shirts and black boots.

L'Wren Scott

A very brightly coloured collection with a mixture of mink pink coats and stunning dresses. This dress was worn by Amy Adams at the Oscars yesterday.

Marc by Marc Jacobs

I always enjoy Marc by Marc and the Marc Jacobs shows. The animal print used looks amazing on this dress and on the hareem trousers.

Marc Jacobs

Polka dots are always a huge trend whether it's S/S or A/W and Marc Jacobs has pulled them off perfectly. With a fish scale texture also used on tops and shirts the different textures go together nicely.

Marchesa

Marchesa are known for gorgeous luxurious gowns and this year is no different. Using red, white and black as well as light pinks and greys the contrast of strong shapes and soft materials makes this all absolutely work.

LONDON

Felder Felder

Love the dark blue and green jewel colours and the rainfall print. The A-line skirts and dresses make a gorgeous collection.

Jaeger London

This jacket is really cool with the wide neck and one row of buttons. Jaeger have used very autumnal colours like mustard, ochre, orange and brown.

Mulberry

I absolutely adore this, always love Mulberry's catwalks and this bird print is so sweet. Somebody buy me this outfit, yes?

Nicole Farhi

The print and material for this outfit is really interesting and the calfskin used with jersey for some of the items in this collection is a really smart look.

Richard Nicoll

Nicoll has mixed sporty with classic designs. I like the ruched collar and delicate look.

Topshop Unique

This is a very cheeky collection, with the dalmation print and cutesy hair it should not be taken too seriously.

Giles

I really like Giles Deacon as a designer and his fall collection is a triumph. I love the concertina effect on this bright white shirt and the cute bows in the models hair.

Mary Katrantzou

Mary Katrantzou's prints are wonderful and this outfit portrays this perfectly. Her collection was eclectic and her quote of put "the room on the woman" is spot on.

never let me go

Just watched 'Never Let Me Go'. It's about three children brought up in a seemingly normal boarding school until a new teacher is appointed and tells them the truth about why they are really there. Starring Andrew Garfield, Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley, there was no way that I couldn't go to see it. They find out that they are specially created to be donors for terminally ill patients and that the world they live in is one where people live till they are over 100 years old. Whereas they don't get a proper life and are just organ giving machines. It was a terribly sad film most of the way through but very poignant and makes you think about the way you live your life. It's not all doom and gloom though, there is a love story that interweaves with the main plot. I think the last line of the film sums it all up...

"We all complete. Maybe none of us really understand what we've lived through, or feel we've had enough time."

There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly

With New York fashion week nearly over and London about to begin the Autumn/Winter shows are in full swing. It takes me back to September when everybody was really excited about the Spring Summer shows. Alexander McQueen's show debuted by Sarah Burton was one of my favourites. It's inspiration was firmly rooted in Nature and a few dresses included amazing brightly coloured butterflies. Butterflies were also seen at other Spring Summer shows such as Loewe, Carlos Miele, Jun Jun Cambe and on a blouse at Sportmax; confirming them as a Spring/Summer trend for 2011.

Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2010/11

Butterflies can be seen in the high street shops at the moment...

Dorothy Perkins - Multi Butterfly shell top - £24.50

Dorothy Perkins - Multi bug print pleat top - £26.00

New Look - Butterfly floral swing top - £16.99

Topshop - Bright butterfly zip pocket vest - £30.00

Accessorize - Summer butterfly charm bracelet - £9.00

Accessorize - Perspex graphic butterfly ring - £8.00

French Connection - Butterfly jersey batwing dress - £62.00

Love the French Connection dress and loving that Dorothy Perkins has really brought into this trend.

best buys

The transition between seasons is annoying for fashion lovers, no? It's cold and then rainy and then mild and then horrendously windy. The new spring/summer collections that are becoming available in the high street shops just aren't wearable yet. Here are some of my best buys that are on trend but still wearable that you can buy in stores at the moment....

Buttermilk cut out back shirt, Topshop, £38         One Shoulder big sleeve top, Miss Selfridge, £35

Shirts, blouses and floaty chiffon tops are very on trend. Dress down with jeans or tailored trousers, dress up with a body con skirt or flower print skirt and wedges.

Two layer t-shirt dress, Warehouse, £50      Dress with crocheted sleeves, Zara, £79.99

The first dress is layered and has sleeves so will keep you looking hot, and with it being a bright raspberry colour it'll make you stand out. Pleats are very 2011 and this Zara dress is gorgeous.

Were you in love with her, Beast? Did you honestly think she'd want you when she had someone like me?

Beauty & The Beast: Ugly Face of Prejudice

If you haven't seen this TV show, then I recommend it highly. The basic premise is there are two people that are put together to try and show the other what their life is like. One is vain and what they would consider 'normal' and the other has suffered from a deformity or gone through a traumatic experience which has affected their appearance. There has been two episodes so far and the latest one which was shown on Wednesday was very controversial. Susan had cancer when she was a child and has had over 60 corrective surgeries whereas Sarah aged 50 has had many cosmetic procedures to get her looking like she is in her twenties. An argument ensued with the two ladies when narcissistic Sarah said that Susan didn't understand her. To me Sarah just came across as one sided, she loves herself so much that she would do anything to keep having plastic surgery and never get old. Why can't people just be happy with the way they look? She wanted Susan to do a photo shoot with her and Susan obliged however whenever Susan wanted to talk to her about how he feels it always seemed like Sarah wasn't listening. This show definitely opens your eyes to what other people have to go through yet can still be positive about themselves and their image. I can understand if you don't like the way you look then there are options to change it  but to be honest I think people should explore other options and surgery should be a very last resort.

Beauty & The Beast: Ugly Face of Prejudice is on Channel 4, Wednesdays at 8pm

Had a really good weekend, nice to see the 'Lush' girlss and my fam. Really tired now though, I don't know what it is about travelling, all you are doing is sitting down but always seems to tire me out. Here is a chosen sunday secret and some pictures. Btw I know my blog is pretty random now so when I get some time I will properly write some things and contribute something worthwhile...

I'm a lefty ;)
